On February 6, Bloomberg reported that Sonos, the smart speaker manufacturer, is undergoing a restructuring process that includes laying off 200 employees. This move comes as the company is still grappling with the fallout from a failed app redesign in May of the previous year, which led to significant customer dissatisfaction and a loss of existing users.
Users widely criticized the new version of Sonos’s app for numerous interface issues and missing features. Under immense pressure, Sonos temporarily halted the development of new hardware products to focus on improving the app
However, restoring the removed functionalities took several months, resulting in a 16% year-over-year decline in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2024.
