My worst purchase was a smartwatch. It didn’t cost me much money, but I expected more from it. In the end, it ended up in a drawer.

Just like Menguelez, my worst purchases aren’t necessarily my most expensive ones, but rather the ones where I end up with something that has absolutely no use. My biggest regrets come from that. Spending money on something that ends up in a box.

So, for my #WorstTechBuy I think I would pick all the smart home gadgets I bought for my home that I ended up not using because one (or several) of the following reasons

They simply didn’t work as expected with Home Assistant
I didn’t research well enough before purchasing that specific model
I hit the “purchase” button without realizing they weren’t the correct type

Now, I have all of these (and more!) products that were no more than wasted time, waste money and, more importantly, wasted resources. I think I should do a giveaway here. 😅

Well, in my case it was an emergency purchase and become my #WorstTechBuy (more out of anxiety than necessity)

I had to give my smartwatch to my girlfriend and my wrist felt naked 🤣 So I bought a smartwatch for less than 25 USD, it does its job like any other, nothing more than the basics.

But there comes a point where the battery drains super fast as soon as it reaches 50%, it’s as if that other 50% was actually 20%🪫

dsmonteiro I actually love most of these.. I did succeed to integrate them seamlessly with Alexa

In 2014-2015 got a pair of “smart glasses” from kickstarter.. I got them but…
what more should I say? :-D

seriousjoker I’m sure most of them work fine, but they didn’t really fit my needs. For example…

the PIR sensor in the photo is bluetooth instead of ZigBee because I didn’t read the instructions, so it doesn’t quite fit my set up. I still tried to import it through a Bluetooth proxy, but no dice.
The smart plug was simply too cheap to be good, so some (of the same model) failed quickly, or turned off way before the rated maximum output
the fingerbots did work, but they weren’t strong enough to be consistent for the button I wanted, and I eventually replaced them with a much more reliable option
The LED driver is incompatible with the LED strips I bought…

Should I continue? :D

So, in short, rushed purchases and bad decisions that don’t really fit my needs.
