Before trying out this watch, I had previously owned a smartwatch that I wasn’t a huge fan of. Although it had all the necessary features, it looked pretty dinky and the software was clunky. As a result, I was cautiously excited when trying out the Heyplus watch, but so far I am very pleased. I’ve been using it for about a week now, and here are my thoughts.
Pros:
- The look and feel of the watch is very premium. I am a fan of the design of the Apple watches, and this has a very similar design. The display looks nice, and the watch feels very good on my wrist. I have had no complaints about the overall fit and finish of the watch, and I love the way the watch looks when sitting on my wrist. I also liked the packaging that the box came in, which is pictured above. Not sure what “Born to Brave” means exactly, but it does sound very inspirational.
- The display is a large high resolution 1.78” AMOLED screen, and boy does it look crisp. It’s bright enough on the lowest setting to use indoors, and the brightest setting is just good enough to use when it’s sunny outside.
- The software of the watch doesn’t feel clunky at all, and has all the features I need. I like that the watch faces are very customizable, but I also really like the look of the dynamic watch faces. I haven’t tried the AI mood detection watch face yet, but I don’t have any high expectations for that. The watch has all of the wellness features that come standard in smart watches, but I haven’t been using them too much, though the interface for tracking wellness is pretty slick for those who are interested in that. The watch also does a fairly good job of passing through notifications from my phone.
- The battery life of the watch is one of the biggest selling points for me, since I intend to take it on an extended vacation without the charger. One week in and it’s still at 75% battery, which is absolutely unreal. This completely blows the most advanced Apple watches out of the water, which can only go a day or two before needing to charge.
Cons:
- On Android, it was a very big hassle to figure out how to download the app. I struggled with the website for a good while before giving up and searching on my own for an APK file to download. This seemed very sketchy, and as a result I don’t think I’ll ever be able to completely trust the app. I have some features disabled, which negatively impacts my experience with the watch.
- To get the watch to receive notifications, you have to go into the app and manually select all of the apps you want notifications from. This becomes very annoying when you have a lot of apps, as you have to scroll through the entire list to find all the apps you want to pass through notifications for.
Overall, I have really enjoyed my experience using this watch. This is so much better than the first watch I tried, and it has convinced me that I can still get a good smartwatch experience on a watch that isn’t too pricey (I’m looking at you, Apple). Looking on Amazon, I see that I could buy the watch for $60 right now, which is about as much as I would pay for it. If the company put some more time into making the app experience nicer and more streamlined, I would rate this watch at a solid 4.5/5. However, when taking price into account, I would give this watch 5/5 because it has extremely good value. Looking forward to using this watch more!
