I was interested to see something with a potentially long battery life as my current watch will only last around two days with all features running. So far this has lasted a week and still isn’t even down to 50% so top marks for energy consumption.
There were issues with not being able to download the app on to an android device but that has now been solved. You cannot set the watch up without the partner app, and you will find a lot of the functionality can be adjusted only from the app.
The watch has a rich, fast screen which is responsive. It sits nicely on the wrist and the strap is comfortable.
I initially thought there is no way that this could possibly be any good in terms of quality and battery performance as it is so ridiculously light weight, but I have been proved wrong on that front.
It’s blood O2 saturation monitor is something a lot of more expensive models don’t offer so impressed with that.
Another positive is it’s waterproof, have tested this in a pool and still going with no sign of water ingress. Not sure how much pressure it could cope with if diving to any depth though.
Overall I would rate this as a sports watch due to its sensors and waterproof rating.
I would use this over my other watch for monitoring stats whilst exercising or when going away on short breaks when I don’t want to pack loads of chargers. However, it won’t connect to my Google fit account saying Google blocked the access, devs can you work on that?
Notifications don’t explain what the are, even after going through the permissions options in the app, the watch literally tells me I have notifications. At least with my other wear os supported device a quick glance at it tells me the headline of if it’s something important or it can wait till later on.
So this leads me on to why it wont replace my every day watch. It does not have a microphone or speaker, I’ve got too used to being able to dictate texts or using that watch for calls when I have my hands full and can’t reach my phone that I absolutely wouldn’t be without those functions long term. Combined with the missing notifications detail it’s too much functionality short for my liking.
Overall the hey+ is a nice piece of kit and a great starting point more aimed at wechat/wepay economies than Google and apple centric ones.
4 out of 5.
