THE EVOLUTION OF X30ULTRA IS NOT "STINGLY”
In 2022 L10s Ultra received much praise from critics and was classified as the best choice compared to competitors of the caliber of Roborock and Ecovacs thanks to innovations such as automatic detergent distribution and the best quality/price ratio which quickly placed it among the the top of the category. In 2023 Dreame further innovated its robots with the introduction of Flex Arm Tecnology on L20 Ultra, wich allowed it to overcome previous limitation by bringing edge cleaning almost to the millimeter level. Thanks to these innovations Dreame has received the prestigious title from Frost & Sullivan as the 1st robot vacuum in the world with a flex robotic arm.
This year it was X40 Ultra’s turn to move the bar even further forward, after having already innovated with X30 Ultra which I have already reviewed here the Suzhou-based company which already has 560 authorized patents under its belt continues to churn out innovations and doesn’t seem to want to stop.
X40 Ultra pushes these features to the limit and innovates again with SideReach and MopExtend-RoboSwing technologies.
CHARACTERISTICS
With its 12000PA this little monster arises again and the tops, combined with the new Tricut 2.0 capable of cutting tangles of hair and the side brush that extends to clean the corners and areas under the furniture there will be very few areas left that it will not succeed to reach and clean effectively, the rear mop which is also extendable accompanies the washing up to the edges of the skirting board and thanks to the circular movement of the robot it also washes the part not visible under the kitchen plinth or the furniture a few millimeters high from the ground. Now during washing or if it detects liquid stains on the ground during vacuuming, the robot is capable of lifting both the main brush and the side brush by up to 1 centimeter, avoiding possible messes, it is also able to detect the dirtiest areas and perform independently carry out a second cleaning of both the dirty areas and the mops. the washing takes place up to a temperature of 70 degrees and this significantly helps to eliminate traces of grease from the mops and ensure better cleaning, however, it is possible to set 4 temperature levels from cold to hot. It is really complex to explain in words how all the new technologies combine and for this reason I believe videos are more explanatory.
Here is a summary of the main features:

ON THE THRESHOLD OF A TRUE HANDS FREE ROBOT
Not only this robot, as expected from a top of the range, is able to empty the dust into the bag , hot mops wash and dry, automatically add detergent ,but thanks to the new tricut brush, the self-cleaning washing plate and the possibility of connecting the base to the domestic water system via special kit, maintenance is really minimal… but still present, and I remember that maintenance is essential to keep the robot efficient and extend its life.
In this regard, Dreame will introduce soon the Master version which has a truly compact, beautiful and well-studied base, this eliminates the old concept of tanks having to be filled and emptied and must be connected directly to the water system in a very simple and clean way, but above all it elegantly lends itself to being inserted under sinks, built into furniture, creating a new category of “built-in robot” perfectly integrated into the aesthetics of the home
MAPPING, NAVIGATION AND OPERATING ALGORITMS
Robots have been used lidar technology to mapping for years now, nothing to add at this point other than that the mapping is truly very precise as Dreame has accustomed us to, the camera guided by AI can now recognize more than 80 types of objects, in the video surveillance mode there is also a new obstacle acquisition mode, to photograph objects not yet present in the recognition algorithm and actively help Dreame in the development. Now it also manages to recognize stubborn stains and implements a series of maneuvers to optimize cleaning, raising the main and side brush and lowering the mops. Despite the great advances in movement logic, cleaning times are still superior to its main rival Roborock and it is not uncommon to find the robot stationary or making strange movements while its artificial intelligence “thinks” about how to avoid an obstacle or pass in a somewhat narrow area.
The Clean Genius 2.0 autonomous cleaning management is now even more advanced and customizable, it is possible to tell the robot to carry out the vacuuming and mopping separately, during washing the base detects the dirt on the mops and decides if this is the case to carry out additional cleaning of a specific area and wash the mops again. The thing that surprised me about the 2.0 compared to the old Clean Genius is how meticulous and customizable it is, once the basic parameters have been set correctly the robot cleans in complete autonomy and does it surprisingly well.
GREATLY IMPROVED APP
The app has improved significantly over the last year and a half. The various options are now presented and integrated much better, so that you as a user always know what is possible in the various mode. This way you can set exactly how hard the machine should vacuum, how much water it should use, etc. per cleaning cycle, now these are not unique features, but the presentation is very nice. Plus, in the settings you’ll find all sorts of options for object recognition, carpet and floor management, and base functions, so the X40 Ultra Complete knows what to take into account.
Also a welcome addition is the possibility of adding additional cleaning areas on the go while the robot is already working, the shortcuts are now much smarter and also interact directly with the furniture insertion function, so you can tell the robot to clean only the area of the table, bed, animal feeder etc. a progress bar is also included which helps us to have an idea of the time it will take the robot to perform a task.
The management of the map is almost perfect, in addition to the now usual functions for setting and renaming the rooms, which the robot already does very well automatically, the prohibited areas and the direction of floor laying, it is possible to indicate to the robot where there are thresholds and even the presence of ramps, so that the robot knows exactly where they are and where it needs more traction to overcome them, which will make those who have areas divided only by a small step happy. It is also possible to wash floors where the station is not present, which requires help from us to return the robot to the base to rinse the clothes and fill the 80ml internal tank, the procedure is explained by a mini guide present in the multimap management menu.
Honorable mention for the new pet management features. Not only does the robot now recognize animals and can immortalize them in photos and animated gifs, but it is possible to indicate the areas where there are pets beds or food bowls to improve the cleanliness in those areas.
For geeks, however, there are a myriad of customization possibilities and functions to set if you prefer the personalized mode, already present on the X30 Ultra including the possibility of setting 32 mop wetting levels, here too, rather than listing them all, it would become a novel… I leave you a video overview of the app.
IN CONCLUSION
The Dreame X40 Ultra is an effective but expensive robot, currently its price is 1499 euros, fortunately the company offers the “complete” version which contains a sufficient number of spare parts to avoid the need to purchase others for at least 1 year, here’s the links:

Its performance and caracteristics are impressive, thanks to the highest suction power we’ve seen on the market, furthermore, the extendable side brush and mop guarantees correct cleaning of corners and skirting boards. The cleaning results are also good, as the robot handles most stains reliably and autonomously.
The commitment to providing its customers with the best possible experience is reflected in the recent opening of an assistance center directly in Italy, I believe one of the first Asian brands in the sector if not the first ever to open an Italian assistance centre.
Now you are going to ask me if we have arrived at the perfect robot, not yet, but the X40 Ultra is the closest to this concept. Dreame for its part follows an endless race towards innovation of which we will soon have more news.
