I’ve been using the Magcubic L018 projector for a while now, and one thing I didn’t expect to care about (but actually do) is the different power/brightness modes. It comes with three: Energy-Saving, Standard, and High-Brightness. At first, I assumed I’d just leave it on one default mode and forget about it—but in real use, I keep switching depending on the environment.
So I thought I’d share how each mode actually feels in day-to-day use, and maybe hear how others are using theirs.
Energy-Saving Mode (55W): surprisingly usable in dark rooms
This is the lowest power mode, and honestly I expected it to be too dim to be useful. But in a properly dark room, it’s actually very comfortable to watch.
What I noticed:
The image is softer, but still clear enough for movies
Black levels feel a bit more natural (less “washed out” look)
The fan noise feels slightly lower too, which is nice at night
I mostly use this when watching late at night with lights off. It feels more relaxed on the eyes, especially for long sessions.
That said, it’s not great if there’s even a small amount of ambient light. You really need a dark environment for it to make sense.
Standard Mode (70W): the “default” I keep coming back to
If I had to pick one mode for everyday use, this would be it.
It feels like the most balanced setting:
Bright enough for most rooms in the evening
Doesn’t feel like it’s pushing the hardware too hard
Colors look more consistent compared to Eco mode
I usually end up using this for casual watching—YouTube, series, or just background content. It handles mixed lighting conditions better than I expected, like when there’s some light leakage from curtains or lamps in the room.
If someone asked me “what mode should I leave it on most of the time?”, I’d probably say this one.
High-Brightness Mode (85W): useful, but situational
This mode is definitely the most impressive at first glance. The image pops more, and it handles ambient light much better.
Where it works well:
Daytime viewing (especially with curtains slightly open)
Bigger wall sizes / larger viewing distance
Rooms that aren’t fully dark
But I don’t use it all the time for a few reasons:
It’s more power-hungry (not a huge deal, but still noticeable in heat output)
Colors feel slightly more “pushed” compared to Standard mode
In a dark room, it can actually feel a bit too bright
So for me, this is more of a “situational boost” mode rather than a default setting.
What surprised me most: I actually switch modes more than I expected
Before using it, I assumed brightness settings on projectors were something you set once and forget. But with the L018, I find myself switching depending on:
It’s a small thing, but it changes the viewing experience more than I expected.
Energy vs brightness trade-off (real-world feel)
On paper, the difference between 55W / 70W / 85W doesn’t seem huge. But in practice, the change in brightness and comfort is more noticeable than the numbers suggest.
My simple breakdown after using it:
Energy-Saving: best for night + comfort + long sessions
Standard: best overall balance (my default choice)
High-Brightness: best for overcoming light / daytime use
Final thoughts
What I like about the L018 is not just the brightness itself, but having options that actually feel usable instead of just marketing features. Each mode has a real scenario where it makes sense, which isn’t always the case with budget projectors.
Right now, I’d say I use:
Nothing groundbreaking, but it does make the projector feel more flexible in daily use.
