Let’s start off with the packaging of the Hakii Sports headphones. It seems a little excessive for essentially a pair of headphones. Don’t get me wrong it’s beautiful, sleek and very well packaged but essentially feels unnecessary. I haven’t included any pictures of the packaging as it has no added value to the product.
Starting off the product wasn’t charged straight out of the box so after giving it some juice, it was time to pair the device to your phone. It was easy. One tap and you’re ready to go. The sound quality is decent for its size but with designs like this you the audio leak is fairly noticeable, so the people around you WILL be able to hear those cheesy bangers you blast pre-workout.
Side note: I’m assuming this was an individual issue with my device but the volume up and volume down button on the headset i received were unresponsive, so to change the volume i had to use my IPhone.
The design of the product is fairly chunky and when viewed straight on it does protrude quite a bit. This may not be an issue for someone with longer hair that can cover the product, but it begs to ask the question as to why not just use in ear headphones that are drastically more discreet (both in sound and in size).
My normal go-to headphones for climbing would be a cheap second hand pair of airpods. They have been dropped, chucked in a chalky climbing bag and are still going strong. However with the ‘HAKII MIX Smart Headband Headphones’ priced at £120 but aimed at the sports and adventurous type, I would have to be a lot more careful with handling them. I haven’t been able to put them through an aggressive test but they do seem fairly rugged.
I would suggest reducing the 22mm bass drivers, to make the product slimmer and reducing the bulkiness of the product.
The sound quality is really great though, something that took me by surprise. While they are too bassy, the placement of the speakers allows for the sound to be directly played into your ears while also allowing you to hear what’s going on around you. Something that’s crucial when participating in sports. I’m not sure they are a good fit for bouldering and climbing but i think for something like tennis they would work well for.
