Do you think the charging port will go away in the future on smartphones?

We all remember when Apple infamously ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack which seemed controversial at the time, but now in 2023 probably 90% of smartphones no longer have that port (pretty much exclusively on gaming phones have it now).

Now there is a rumor that since Apple is being forced to use Type C instead of lightning due to EU regulations, they might just end up removing the port all together and go all in on wireless charging.

Do you think the charging port will go away by 2030?

Wireless charging technology currently still isn’t there yet, but it’s made a crazy amount of improvement in the last 5 years alone. Personally, I have no doubt in my mind that wireless charging will be as powerful as wired charging, with high charging speeds like 65W in the future but will it happen in 7 years? Tough to say.

I think will be the future of charging, but not nowadays.

Yeah I think port-less phones are in the works. That will be the future. The question is when. I wouldn’t be surprised if this idea starts to be implemented before 2030 personally. Rumors and speculation have suggested of Apple going port-less. They’ve also apparently worked on solid state buttons.

I don’t think they will remove the charging port. In the end, the introduction of a wireless charging port can mean an even higher cost for the manufacture of your products. They would undoubtedly have to investigate how to save costs and ensure that the product is of the highest possible quality.
