I’m using a moped every day to ride to work and back. Every day is the same thing: I walk to the moped listening to my favourite radio, I put my helmet on and the earphone goes just slightly off place. I put it back in my ear where it belongs, I ride for 10-minute, take the helmet off, and 50-50 the earphone goes on the floor or inside the helmet.
In the last few years, I’ve tried almost any kind of headset (but the dedicated helmet ones: AirPod Pros, Bose Frame, and then most of the cheap true wireless headsets (huawei, xiaomi, soundcore, and a dozens more).
Last week, I was lucky and got sent the Oladance Wearable Stereo: Epic Sound. Open Earbuds to review.. To be honest I would have never bought them myself… the design isn’t something that appealed to me and I’m very much into the in-ear design.
I couldn’t be any more surprised when I felt how comfortable they are. I put them on and kept wearing them throughout the whole day without even noticing it. Do you know how any headset you have after a while feels discomfortable and, in the long run, even hurts a little?? Well, forget it; that’s not going to happen with these.
But it is when I rode my moped back home that I was really pleased with how good they felt inside my helmet. When I took my helmet on they stayed solidly in place and during the whole trip they didn’t nudge.
The sound is great too and the open ear approach reminds me of the Bose Frames as they allow for a complete headset experience without impairing the possibility of earing what happens around. Good point for you Oladance.
I’ve tested the microphones in the traffic up to speeds of just above 100 Km/h and I can tell you that the recording is quite clear and overall completely usable for calls.
Overall here I’ll try to list the PROs of the Oladance:
- They stay in place when I put my helmet on
- They provide good sound while riding
- They provide adequate volume while riding
- They provide good microphones and noise cancellation for phone calls
- They allow me to hear what happens around me (very important for security)
- They stay in place when I arrive at my destination and get my helmet off
- They are very comfortable throughout the ride and the whole day
On the short side, there is a little background noise when the headset is on even if it is not streaming audio. It sounds like active noise cancelling but it’s not (or it shouldn’t be). Normally you wouldn’t hear it but in a very quiet environment, it is noticeable. The worst thing is that I believe it is draining power!! If I’m right, though, a software update should solve it and add extra battery power to the set!
What do you think?
