Meta Phases Out the Original Oculus Quest Headset

UploadVR reports that the lifecycle of the original Oculus Quest has officially come to an end. Meta announced that developers will no longer be able to update or support the original Quest in the app store, and apps that are compatible with the original Quest will be removed from the store.

The original Quest was released in May 2019, powered by the 2017 Snapdragon 835 chipset. After the launch of the Quest 2 in October 2020, the original Quest was immediately discontinued.

How do you feel about the rapid evolution of VR technology and the shift to newer models? Which VR brands are you most excited about in 2025?

Ivyisme Technology is advancing so quickly that even VR/AR glasses are becoming obsolete. Maybe Apple vision pro if you can use them without apple device it would be excited about

I have the Quest 2, but truth be told, I haven’t used them much recently.

For me, the most important thing is the combination of good software, available apps, and good optics. As of now, I feel like only Meta delivers on that promise. Pico 4 felt like it could become a good alternative, but they have been clearly struggling with the market.

Menguelez so true, but According to multiple supply chain sources directly involved in the production of Vision Pro components, Apple has gradually scaled back production of the Vision Pro since last summer and recently informed its assembly manufacturer, Luxshare Precision, that production may officially end in November last year. This news has sparked speculation about the future development of the Vision Pro, but Apple has yet to officially respond to these claims. Let’s hope for the meta’s Orion instead :)

Ivyisme I’ve checked their product pages and it seems an interesting product, more leaning towards media consumption. It feels like it can be a good accessory to bundle with a PC console like the Steam Deck, or even a mobile phone, for a better media consumption experience.
