Hirokazu Kore-eda’s ‘Broker’
Below I will try to explain why I really hope this film wins.
The last few years have shown the world that Korean cinema is a new and unexpectedly strong player in the international film market. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a full-fledged film, an author’s project or a series - in any case, Korea produces a world-class product that attracts everyone’s attention, but at the same time it is very unusual and original. Examples include the unusual Oldboy (Oldeuboi), the explosive Squid Game (Ojing-eo Geim) and, of course, the magnificent Parasite (Gisaengchung). I really hope that the film Broker directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda will be appreciated at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and will be able to compete for an Oscar. If successful, this will allow Korean filmmakers to further shake up and freshen up the overly boring Hollywood and European cinematic order, as the French New Wave did in the late 50s of the last century. Honestly, I have long been tired of the monotonous plotless multimillion-dollar superhero blockbusters.
