I’ve been checking out the new PGYTech RetroVa kits, and it’s wild to see how much we’re starting to bolt onto our phones now. On one hand, having an actual grip and serious telephoto reach for stuff like concerts or travel is a total vibe—it basically turns your phone into a professional rig.

But I can’t help but wonder if this kills the best part of smartphone photography: the convenience. Are we really down to start “assembling” our phones every time we want to snap a photo, or is this just too much bulk for something that’s supposed to stay in your pocket?
