A Chinese AI Company, SenseTime, released their new Chinese Chess AI. Yes, it is released now, at a time when Artificial Intelligence have already demolished all board games like Chess and I-go.
However, it has robotic arms which can pick up actual chess piece instead of playing the game virtually.
For those of you who don’t know Chinese Chess. Chinese Chess rule is similar to Western Chess but different in details and pieces. The pieces are little short cylinders, and different characters were written on top. It’s like Japanese Chess/Shogi if you know what that is.
That’s why the robot can recognize each piece using image recognition technology, which I believe SenseTime is good at. It might be much harder to make one for Western Chess, because the shapes are too complicated for the AI.
The pro version is 2,499 RMB( 369.99 USD), and the standard version is 1,999 RMB (295.99 USD). The speaker said it is mainly for educational purpose, it can replace a chess teacher. (The AI replacement is happening!)
