They are not really new but the ESP8266 and the ESP32 chips are the best things that happened on our ages. These tiny low-cost things gave bluetooth and wifi connectivity to many devices we use nowadays.
The ESP32 can even run DOOM, many emulators for 8-bit systems and can even emulate a early IBM PC!
