Do you care about screen refresh rate?

As always, as soon as Apple announces their new iPhones, the internet immediately begins debating and analyzing every feature and design choice and square inch of the darn things.

This year, one of the big debates/complaints is the fact that Apple stayed at the 60Hz refresh rate for the displays of the base model iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus - a phone that starts at $800.

Since Android phones (even mid-range ones) have had higher refresh rate displays for a while, does anyone really care? As someone who uses both and iPhone 13 mini (60Hz) and a OnePlus 10 Pro (120Hz adaptable), I must say I honestly don’t notice that much of a difference. The iPhone 13 mini still feels plenty fast and responsive to me so it’s not that big of a deal.

What are your thoughts?

I’d probably keep it at 90 or above which, like you said, is pretty common among android phones. Currently running 120 but didn’t notice much difference either from the 90 of my OnePlus 7 pro.

In theory, a higher refresh rate should equal a better quality picture because it cuts down on blurriness. A 120Hz display decreases the appearance of “film judder” or blurring that might be noticeable to some on a 60Hz screen. Improvements beyond a 120Hz refresh rate are unnoticeable.

Heyo I’ll try to write up a review over the weekend. Overall it’s ok but definitely not my favorite. I had hoped to keep away from Samsung after the whole Note Battery Explosions but got this for a pretty good deal. Had thought about just buying a slightly used 7pro again but with it not having 5g, it’d kinda be a waste of money.

DarkPikaJP Yeah that makes sense about Samsung. I try to stay away too but their hardware is just so good lol.

And I’m really losing my excitement for OnePlus of late with everything they’ve done with the new phones and OxygenOS 13.

Do you get good 5G where you are? I haven’t noticed a huge difference for me. But maybe I’m just not paying attention lol.

I does matter, it feels very good for me to have high refreshing rate. However, yes, however, it frustrates me when it started to suck up my battery.

J’ai toujours eu des smartphones avec un taux de 60Hz mais c’est vrai que par moment, on voit que l’écran a un peu de mal (c’est pas fluide).

Je pense que si je passe sur un smartphone avec un taux de 90 ou 120Hz, je vais voir la différence, c’est sûr et j’aurai du mal à retourner en arrière, même si la batterie descend un peu plus vite 😅

Heyo I don’t and I understand the feeling with OnePlus. The idea with this phone was to get something that’ll last for years instead of changing each year like I was doing 😅

It depends on the usage scenario. In my opinione for the normal task like browsing, WhatsApp, taking pictures 60 Hz is smooth enough, but when gamin FPS 120 would be a much better refresh rate.
