My new Lenovo ThinkPad's FN key location is annoying.

Got a new laptop recently, it’s great, and as a weird heathen that I am, I love the keyboard. It feels good and is super quiet like all laptop keyboards. But that FN key…. It’s in a different location than I am used to and I hate it. I’ve messed up my shortcut key pressing about 100 times in the past two days alone because of it lol. Eventually, I’ll get used to it, but why can’t basic keyboards just all be the same 😅

Ryan_Potter I have switched from an ASUS RoG t an Acer Nitro and now the whole shortcuts are messed up. It’s okay, but I need to search a little bit to find them.

What I am also find confusing is the way HUAWEI is handeling the FN function. Every F-Key has a second function. And the FN function is enabled all the time. If you want to use th F-Key (for example Alt+F4) you need press the FN Key to activate the F keys. The FN Key has a little point which indicate that it is pressed. As I use some HUAWEI Laptops at work I am used to it now, but I still think it is confusing.

Ryan_Potter Wow that is weird. Do you have some pictures so we can commiserate with you lol? Do you think it’s something you can get used to? I know I’ve had to adjust to new keyboards a few times and it’s super annoying.

The FN key is located at the bottom left hand side of the keyboard, far bottom left key slot, that is usually reserved to the ctrl key in my head. My last laptop had the ctrl key there with the FN right to the right of it. Was super easy. Now I find myself smashing the FN key every time I want to copy, paste, open a new tab, etc…

Eventually, I’ll get comfortable to the location. But with my luck, the moment I’m comfortable, I’ll be getting yet another new computer lol

Heyo Yes. My previous laptops it was located to the right of the ctrl key. So the ctrl was always easy to find without looking.

Gotta love change…Tho the last laptop I owned was a Lenovo which had the FN key located in the same spot of your Lenovo it sounds like.
