Is Microsoft taking ARM more seriously?

Microsoft just announced the new Surface Pro 9 lineup and this time there’s an ARM version with the latest Qualcomm processor, and it’s not a detached lineup like the “old” Surface Pro X, it’s a variant of the same chassis as the intel version, but it lacks thunderbolt 4 ports, has slower RAM and fewer storage than the Intel i5 version while costing more

The new Qualcomm processor is more power efficient and just a bit less powerful than the i5, but will anyone buy it?

Windows on ARM is still lacking many natives apps, and Qualcomm processors are far behind Apple’s M1 and M2 in raw power, but at least the power draw it’s a bit better

Would you trust any Windows on arm device? Knowing at least Microsoft put out some new good developers kit, so maybe some more apps will be ported to this version

di_lorenzo I really don’t think there’s any reason to get the Qualcomm version over Intel unless you really need the 5G connectivity. Other than that, no reason in my mind.

Side note: I’ve been wanting to get a Surface Pro for a long time but they’re just way too expensive for me lol.

Yea surface are expensive, when speaking cost-effect, my budget is a little short for it.

I believe big companies like Microsoft can test more product than we can imaging 😃

Heyo I think the only usecase for the 5G version is if you travel a lot and need 5G a monstrous battery, but realistically with a powerbank and a hotspot you are covered for cheap

I think surface profucts are a bit expensive. The reason maybe Qualcomm chip apart from 5G maybe improve the battery

Yea like everyone said and I said here, it is over my budget regardless of the chip. I do wish they were more affordable because Ive always had an interest in them.

I like the surface products, but I will say they are overpriced if I may be honest! The slower RAM and fewer storage will really suck.
